Job Description: Family Ministries Coordinator (Emphasis Children, Youth) Friendship United Methodist Church Time Commitment: Full Time Approximate wage: Determined by Qualifications Reports to: Pastor for immediate supervision. Works in conjunction with the Family Ministries Committee. The goal of this position is to guide the faith development of children (0-12) and youth (age 13 -18) by partnering with them, their families, and other church members to coordinate activities and experiences that are age appropriate using scripture, spiritual practices, prayer, community building fun, and teaching in the tradition of The United Methodist Church. • Recruit and coordinate volunteers to help facilitate all ministry activities with children and youth (Sunday mornings, Sunday afternoon, Wednesday evenings, etc.) • Plan and facilitate Sunday school classes for multiple age groups of children and youth • Plan, develop, and oversee age-appropriate faith development activities for children and youth on Wednesday evenings • Plan and lead youth group (or similar program, currently monthly on Sunday afternoons) • Coordinate special events in the life of the church as related to children (e.g., Confirmation, Third Grade Bible Presentation, Easter Egg Hunt, Christmas Musical, etc.) and youth (e.g., Youth Sunday, mission trips, Graduation Recognition, etc.) • Ensure that the church complies with its Safe Sanctuary policy and procedures by training volunteers; obtaining background checks; maintaining records; recruiting the necessary volunteers for all activities; and periodically updating and maintaining the policy, procedures, and covenant statements • Build and maintain connections with children, youth, parents, and volunteers by being present during the Wednesday night meal and other church-wide activities • Proactively identify and welcome children and youth (including parents) who are new or repeat visitors at Sunday worship. Follow up with any requests noted on the weekly attendance sheets. • Meet with the Family Ministries Committee regularly to plan and coordinate Friendships ministry with children, youth and families. • Facilitate the Children’s Message during Sunday mornings at 11:00 worship • Organize and coordinate volunteers for Children’s Church during the 11:00 service for children aged 3-6 • Order, collect, and distribute curriculum and supplies for children’s and youth’s discipleship and religious education classes and opportunities • In collaboration with the Church Administrator, ensure that the nursery is provided with staff and volunteers during Sunday school, worship, Wednesday night, and other church-wide activities or meetings • Attend weekly staff meetings and monthly Leadership Board meetings • Submit notices for the bulletin and newsletter to publicize activities • Project budget needs for the Children’s and Youth Ministry for each year. • Other duties and administrative tasks as assigned
